Figaro, chestnut Oldenburger
Stallion by Futuro/Furioso xx, born in 1972 , passed away in 2000,
standing
approximately 16.3
hands.
The dam of Noble Champion, the Stats Premium mare Figarella,
is by the last great modern day Oldenburg foundation sire, Figaro. Figaro was a
lifetime legend in the modern Oldenburg breed and was sired by the Anglo-Norman
Futuro by the great Furioso xx who also sired Furioso II, a stallion who had a
dramatic impact on both the Oldenburg and Hanoverian breeds. The chestnut Figaro
was born in 1972, named Oldenburg Champion Stallion in 1976, and died in 2000 at
the age of 28. The current total of his progeny winnings to date is over DM
1,150,000.
Figaro was also the sire of Grand Prix showjumpers Figaro's
Boy and Virtual Village Flower III, as well as the dam sire of Grand Prix
dressage horses Aleppo (Argentinus/Figaro) and Ranier (Rolando/Figaro). Figaro
sired multiple Bundeschampionat winners such as Figaro's Lady, who later sold at
the Vechta auction for DM 100,000. Figaro sired 5 approved sons, including
Filigran and Fighting Lion and 228 registered broodmares, of which 46 received
Stats Premium status. As a result he has a current BLUP for showjumping of 137
which is very good for a stallion born almost 30 years ago and whose progeny
mainly competed in the mid-1980s when prize money was much less than it is now.
The next generation in Figarella's pedigree provides the input
of the Thoroughbred stallion Apollo xx by Panaslipper xx. It is this unique
combination of thoroughbred blood (Noble Roi xx and Apollo xx), with a mixture
of French blood through Futuro, that makes Noble Champion the elegant,
thoroughly modern type he is and gives him the scopey jump, super paces and
great temperament for which he is noted and for which he has a proven reputation
for passing on.

Oldenburg Breeding News:
Oldenburg Foundation stallion "Figaro"
passed away
The legendary Oldenburg foundation sire Figaro
passed away on May 24, 2000. This is a tragic loss for the Oldenburger
verband which lost two of its best stallions, Figaro and Rubinstein I,
within two weeks.
Oldenburg connoisseur and chief editor of the
Oldenburger Sportpferd magazine Jan Toenjes explains:
"Figaro was a lifetime legend in the Oldenburg
breed. The last "purebred" Oldenburg was sired by the
Anglo-Norman Futuro (by Furioso xx). Figaro's dam Veilchenate by Goerz
was one of the last mares of the old coach horse type to be used for
breeding in the early 1970s. The chestnut, born in 1972, was awarded
with the "Oldenburg champion stallion" title in 1976. He
sired Grand Prix competition horses for both show jumping (Figaro's
Boy/Ludger Beerbaum) and Flower/John Whitaker) and dressage (Aleppo
(Argentinus x Figaro) and Rainier (Ronaldo x Figaro).
Figaro sired multiple Bundeschampionate winners like
Figaro's Lady (later sold at the Vechta auction for DM 100.000 - which
was a spectacular price in the early 80s) or Frauenfreund - a
promising Grand Prix mount that accidentally died. His son Formidable
(Figaro x Inschallah) ridden by Markus Gribbe of Wasserburg/Inn was
the only horse to beat Anthony FRH as a 5-year-old at the
Bundeschampionate in Munich in the first qualification. Waldelefe
(Figaro x Tin Rocco) made it to the Nurnberger Burgpokal finals 1999
ridden by Hiltrud Mohrmann. Figaro was only approved for the Oldenburg
Verband - in the past years he was in the lead in the "old
sires" section of the FN breed statistics. Figaro had to be put
down because of his age, he sired 5 approved sons and 228 registered
Oldenburg broodmares of which 46 received the state premium title.
More information on Figaro and Rubinstein's death
will be published in the Oldenburger Sportpferd magazine.
